Take It Out Tuesday - Episode 2

Let me start by asking for your prayers for a former classmate of mine.  Nicole is having surgery today to remove a brain tumor.  She is currently pregnant and has five other children.  Nicole is one of the nicest people I've ever known.  She always has a smile and a kind word for everyone.  A fundraiser has been set up for her and her family.  If you are able, please consider a donation.

I wanted to keep things pretty simple today because it's my husband's 40th birthday and I want to spend the day focusing all my attention on him.  Because what more could he want for his birthday than me staring at him all day long?

I was a bit worried at first because I hadn't decided what to de-hoard and I thought if I just grabbed something to post about it wouldn't be enough.

But isn't that the whole point?  It doesn't have to be major.  It can be something as simple as.

A cheese grater.

Because now I have a food processor with a cheese grater!  Who needs the manual one that tries to grate off the tips of your fingers?

The sad thing is that I was planning on keeping it.  You know, in case the food processor ever broke and we needed to shred some cheese.

You know, in a shredded cheese shortage emergency.

The truth is, I have only used that shredder a couple of times.  Because I wasn't a fan of getting my finger tips shredded.  And did you know they actually sell cheese pre-shredded?  So, if the food processor ever did break, I could just go back to buying already shredded cheese.

Right?

Mmmkay.

Plus that thing takes up way too much room in the drawer and is always catching and making it hard to open and close.

De-hoarded!

Take It Out Tuesday #1

Welcome to Take It Out Tuesday!

I should probably have had this done yesterday so I could post it early this morning but...

Procrastination.

Late to my own party.  Bad I know.

Here you all are, waiting all impatiently for me to get my act together.

I promise to do better next week.  Hopefully.  Maybe.

This week I actually tackled Mount Baby Clothes.

Take It Out Tuesdays

Yesterday morning, I opened my cabinet to grab a mug.

Saw that all my favorite mugs were dirty.

Grabbed that one Coca-Cola mug that did not get de-hoarded.

Saw it was chipped.

And what did I do?

I put it right back in the cabinet and grabbed another mug.

Not only did I put it back in the cabinet, I didn't give it a second thought.

It wasn't until I was putting away dishes later and creatively placing the mugs in the cabinet so they would all fit Tetris style, it hit me.

Why did I put a broken mug back in the cabinet?  A broken mug that, my own actions prove, will not be used.  A mug that would only have been used as a last resort even if it hadn't been chipped!

Immediately my defenses started to rise.  I already de-hoarded all my Coca-Cola mugs except this one.  This is the one that I allowed myself to keep.  I am NOT getting rid of my last Coca-Cola mug.

Why?

What is with the immediate possessive response?  I don't even know.  I really have absolutely no reason.  Just some instinctual hoarding reaction.  It was in my keep pile so it must remain.  FOREVER!!!  Where is this unwritten rule that I must own at least one Coca-Cola mug?  Even if it happens to be broken.  What purpose does that serve?

So, I made the obvious decision to toss it.

And then I made the obvious decision to blog about it.

But, I thought to myself, my 31 Days of De-Hoarding series is over.

I figured this would make an odd little footnote to the series.

You can probably see where I am going with this.
