No Housework & Mother-In-Laws Don't Mix

So . . . I just got a phone call from my husband.  He was calling to inform me that my mother-in-law might be stopping by today.

Um . . . Today is No Housework Day !

My mother-in-law lives an hour away.  She never just stops by.  We always have plenty of warning and not just the one hour it takes her to get here warning.  Usually her visits are planned in advance.  Happen on the weekend when her husband can join her.  Correspond with holidays or birthdays (my kids, the cousins, adults in the family) or other big events.  She has an undiagnosed condition that causes her to fall.  Because of this it is hard for her to make the trip out here all the time.  Don't get me wrong we see her frequently.  At least once a month she comes here or we go there.  Next visit was planned for Easter.  Then we would have Mother's Day . . . etc.

Why the sudden decision to visit?  Well, my sister-in-law is in the hospital today.  She has been having a "severe allergic reaction" to some unknown substance for several months now.  This is the second time it has landed her in the hospital because she couldn't breath.  Basically they are giving her breathing treatments.  They put her on steroids last time and then ran allergy tests.  All the tests came back negative for allergies.  She was then told that the medication she was on would produce a false negative on the tests.  "Here's your bill."  "We should really run those tests again" . . . Needless to say she decided to pass on that.  Except that she really needs to figure out what she is reacting to.  Sigh.

Anyway.  My mother-in-law understandably wants to visit her daughter in the hospital.  My sis-in-law will probably be mad that she made the trip because she needs to take care of herself.  Mom-in-law will tell sis-in-law that she should have gone to the doctor and needs to take care of herself.  There are some stubborn women in this family and we don't take our own advice.

So while mom-in-law is one block away at the hospital she might get the bright idea to visit.  No, I can't just go meet her because I don't have a car.  The hospital is across the highway so can't walk with the kids.

Are you starting to see the dilemma here.

Mom-in-law is a . . .

I am . . .

Today is No Housework Day!

My living room looks like this . . .
My Messy Living Room - I take this holiday seriously!

No, I didn't prepare for No Housework Day by cleaning yesterday!  Non-Domestic remember?  It wasn't like I was going to have any company . . .

Deep breaths.

I am between a rock and a hard place.

It looks like I have no choice but to surrender.

I will just have to let my mother-in-law see my house in it's full messy glory.

What?  Did you think I was going to clean?

It's No Housework Day !!!
