A Holiday Gift Giving Guide: Gift Ideas for Mom

I figured since I shared my gift ideas for kids, I might as well do a little window shopping for myself the moms out there.*

Just a heads up.  I tend to like more practical gifts.  I know lots of people complain about practical gifts but I prefer to get something that makes my life easier.  Yes, Sometimes it's really nice to get something that's just for fun but if it's one or the other I lean practical.  I guess the important thing is know the receiver and plan accordingly.

My House is Messy, but...

Is it actually the messiest house on the internet??

Well, it's high time we found out.

Now, I don't normally win contests.

My house isn't quite messy enough for Hoarders.

But it will never be clean (or beautifully decorated) enough to be in Better Homes and Gardens.

And I ain't winning any fashion awards for some strange reason.

But surely, if ever there were something I was in fact qualified for, it would be this.

Because folks, out of hundreds of houses, mine was one of 32 houses nominated for the Messiest House on the Internet Award over at My Life and Kids.

It's an honor to be nominated.  Really.

If ever I was qualified to win an award for anything, this, this certainly is it.

Seriously ya'll, if I can't win this one... well then I just can't win.

Now, you know I have no shame.  You have seen my poopvomit story after all.  So, I am just going to go ahead and ask you to head on over to My Life and Kids to vote for ME!

In case you are wondering what I would do with an amazing new Oreck vacuum when you already know I have a new vacuum...

I have a two story house.  It's all carpet except the bathrooms and kitchen.  The vacuum I have is a bit heavy to walk up and down the stairs.  The cat litter box is upstairs and those little granules get tracked everywhere.

Oh yes, the upstairs is just as messy as the downstairs.

Also, in case you needed the reminder of how messy my house really is.  Or you are under the false assumption that I have managed to clean it all from top to bottom (no idea where on earth you would get that idea) and no longer qualify as messiest house.  I thought I would close with a picture of the top of our entertainment center.
Where's the Alien?
It's been messy since we moved in.  Unless you count the time our living room flooded and we had to move all the furniture out.  It went right back afterwards.  And I am a bit unsure of how to even tackle that craziness.  So, I just leave it to my husband.  Which means it just stays.

And I remind myself to be happy for DVD's out of reach of the Princess.  Who loves to scatter movies and games across the floor of the living room.  Creating a sort of hopscotch game.  When a DVD gets crushed, you lose.

How Cool Are These Cards? Giveaway!!

I have a confession to make.

I have been blogging for more than two years now and I have never ordered business cards for my blog.

I've been to several blogger events, have been asked multiple times for my card, but I have always had to admit that I don't have any yet.

Why?

I can't count the number of times I have designed business cards for my blog only to close out the window without ordering.  Nothing was ever quite right.  They all lacked that something special.  Know what I mean?

Years ago someone gave me a business card.  I don't remember who it was or what the business was.  I do remember the card.

It was back when business cards were still just plain white cards with black printing and a company logo.

That card was different.

It was translucent.

I had never seen anything like it.  You better bet I kept that card.  Forever.  In fact I wouldn't be surprised if I someday came across it, stashed in a box or an old purse somewhere.  It was that cool!

That's what I want.  I want someone to take my card and say, "Wow!  That's such a great business card."

Like I said, I just hadn't found what I was looking for.

Until now!

The minute I saw the unique, custom print business cards that UPrinting has to offer, I knew.

These are exactly what I have been searching for!

Check these out!
How fun are those cards?

I think my favorite is the rounded corner or the leaf shape.  I just can't decide!

The best part?  This is your chance to win 250 die-cut business cards from UPrinting.*

7 Quick Takes Friday: Tiaras, Chalk Teeth & Freezers

--- 1 ---
The Peanut has been pampering me today.  I'm not sure where he got the idea.  Perhaps all the Mother's Day commercials?  He started off by doing my hair.  He pretty much used all his sister's hair dealies.
Don't be jealous.  We can't all be this beautiful!
There have been frequent fixes because it keeps coming untwisted.
That pink thing on top is a tiara.
Possibly he was just tired of my hair looking like this

--- 2 ---
Later he gave me a back massage.  Not even sure where he ever even heard of back massages.  He had to ask me how to do it.  It pretty much consisted of him softly rubbing my back.  I will be sure to encourage this type of behavior!

Stuff I Want: Doors / Stuff I Did: Curtains

When I walked into my house for the very first time and saw the living room I fell in love.  Not as much with how it looked then but with how I envisioned it looking.  It had so many of the features I was looking for.  I instantly felt at home.  I just knew it was the ONE.  It was actually the first house we looked at so, because we didn't want to be the people who just bought the first house we saw, we went around looking at all the other houses.  Then we came back and bought this one.

This is what the house looked like.
This is actually the picture from the listing (with my husband's notes) because we, in our enthusiasm to move in, never took any before pictures.
What I loved?  The stone fireplace.  The space.  The two story vaulted ceiling.  I hadn't really wanted a two story house but if I was going to have one I wanted the stairs to be spectacular.  When I saw that railing it took my breath away!  How cool is that railing?  I had never seen anything like it.  Best of all check out those doors!

Ok.  Maybe not those doors in particular.  But the doors they could be!

Something like...

Except white.  With Bordeaux shades.  Exactly like this.

Shortly after we moved in I decided to price my new doors.  Just to know.  So that the next time I had a few hundred dollars burning a hole in my pocket I would be prepared.

I gave the salesperson all my specifications.  I knew exactly what I wanted and would settle for nothing less.

He gave me the grand total.

T-Hee Blogger Party

Yesterday I attended a blogger party at T-Hee Greetings & Gifts.  Right when I walked in the door I knew it was my kind of store.

I don't know if you have noticed this at all (because my blog design is so subtle) but I love color.  Bright c o l o r s !   Yup, my kind of store!

So, now I will try to whittle down my list of favorite things in the store, and try to tell you about just a few of them.  Because I could probably go on and on and on.  Instead, I will try to keep it to my 5 favorites.  As in 5 of the things that have been dancing around in my head since last night, pretty much taunting me with their awesomeness.

1. Every year I host Thanksgiving at my house.  Every year I inevitably hear the following question.  "Where do you keep your dish towels?   DISH Towels?  Does that sound like something I would own??

Then I saw these!
How perfect are these?  Thanksgiving Dish Towels!!!  Adorable!!!
2. As noted above, I like color.  Just a little.  I also love little notepads.  They are such handy little things to have.  As a blogger I have found it quite convenient to keep a little note pad in my purse just in case inspiration strikes.  If I am going to have a notepad it might as well be pretty.  Right?

Stuff I Want: Beds

Since Time Warner made me clean my kid's room, and now they have all this inordinate amount of space to actually play with their toys, and act all crazy running around and dancing, I think it's high time we start to fill up all that space with actual furniture.

Specifically the furniture that has been lurking in our hallway, and the "bonus room," which is really not a room at all, but more like an extra wide hallway, or part of the dining room, or part of the living room.

Of course, it only makes sense to put the beds back in the room as well, so we can finally have our room back to ourselves.

Obviously the simple thing to do would be to move the beds they are currently using back into their room.  Right?  But when can things ever be simple?

Stuff I Want: Gypsy Chandelier

Yesterday I was planning on posting a Wordless Wednesday post with pictures from the Renaissance Festival but I realized all the good pictures were taken on my sis-in-law's camera so I will have to wait until I can get copies from her.

Until then you will have to make due with another edition of Stuff I Want !!!!

Previously I have picked practical items like a shelf or a $600 toilet so today I thought I would go totally and completely in the opposite direction.

This item is about as impractical as it gets.  And so so pretty too.

Stuff I Want: Kohler Toilet

I know you have all been wondering what ever happened to my "Stuff I Want " series.  Everyday you check in and find to your dismay no "stuff."  You haven't given up hope though.  You keep checking back with baited breath.  Is today the day?  Will your patience be rewarded?

My friends . . . today is that day!

You ask yourself, does she want another shelf?

Yes, of course I do.

But that is not what I am going to talk about today.

Today I am going to talk about something else I want.

A new toilet!!!!

Um, really?  Yes, I know.  Of all the things I could wish for a toilet is what I pick?!

You haven't seen it yet.  It's not just any toilet.

It's a . . .

Stuff I Want: Kitchen Shelf

Previously I mentioned that I enjoy a little activity I like to call Online Window Shopping.  In the spirit of wanting stuff I don't have, I thought I would start a little series entitled Stuff I Want.  This is where I get to tell you about all the stuff I wish I had. :)

Sounds exciting doesn't it?

I know you are on the edge of your seat.

What will she wish for first?

Behind door number 1 is . . . *drumroll*

A new shelf! *applause*

Wait.  What is this girls obsession with shelves?!
