Five Question Friday: 4/1/11

1. Have you ever had surgery?

Yes, several actually.  I had never even been in a hospital as a patient before my son was born.  Now I've had 4 surgeries.  Actually I guess I've had 5 because the gallbladder surgery was technically two.  I don't know why I say technically.  They were two separate surgeries on two separate days.

It's so strange to fill out medical paperwork and have to list all those surgeries after going so many years checking "No" on everything.

I've had two c-sections, one gallbladder removal (which was two surgeries, one lapriscopic and one endoscopic, during which I woke up) and one DNC after my miscarriage. :'(

Waking up during an endoscopic surgery is something I don't recommend.  I remember gagging on the tube that was down my throat.  I was trying so hard not to because I knew it needed to be there.  The doctors kept telling me to just relax and I was really trying.  Then they upped the anesthesia and I was out again.  I guess I wasn't supposed to remember that because the nurse was shocked when I mentioned it.  She had been there during the surgery but she thought I wouldn't remember because of the "amnesia effect" of the anesthesia.

I also had my wisdom teeth removed in December.  Does that count as a surgery?  Woke up during that too . . . Ouch!

2. Ever ride in an ambulance?

Never, but I have seen quite a few of them.  Sometimes I have even had to pull over to let them pass.

My sister rode in one once.  The school nurse thought she had appendicitis but she actually had Crohn's disease.

3. How are you in a medical emergency? Panicked? Calm?

Um . . . you mean one involving . . . BLOOD ?!  Totally calm, why do you ask? *twitch*

I plan to avoid all medical emergencies in the future.  My kids have been instructed never to get hurt.  They are usually pretty obedient so I don't think it should be too much of a problem.  Right?  Right?!  TELL ME I'M RIGHT!!!

4. Do you have a garden? Flowers or veggies?

Ha! I can kill anything. I killed a cactus garden once. Took me about a week.  I bought some Iris bulbs last year.  They are still sitting in a bag somewhere.  Do bulbs go bad?

5.  When did you move out of your parents house?

When I left for college . . . then I moved back in each summer.  I guess I officially moved out after I graduated from college and didn't move back in.  So, I guess I was 22.
